P6 My Language, My Identity

Bahasa Ku, Jati Diri Ku

SCHOOL / ORGANISATION
PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Admiralty Blk 581

SYNOPSIS

What makes us unique and different from others is our culture. Our culture is our identity and we believe that the nurturing of one’s cultural identity starts from young. With that in mind, the Malay classroom in PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Admiralty Blk 581 has been transformed into an interesting place where children can learn and explore different activities that help embrace their ethnicity.

Malay is a living language for our children. They need to listen to and use it in their daily activities and routines in order for them to see the relevance of the language. To enable children to embrace Malay, we have incorporated traditional songs, poems and rhymes into our activities. Besides communicating in Malay during lessons, our children are exposed to activities that are unique to the Malays. Examples of such activities are the making of ketuk ubi, doing batik printing, dramatising with wayang kulit, playing traditional games and appreciating music created with the congkak (a mancala game of Malay origin) and angklung.

Through these strategies, our children have successfully developed an appreciation for the Malay language.

SINOPSIS
