SPEAKERS’ PROFILE

Mdm Murshidah is a Curriculum Resource Development Officer in the Pre-school Team of the Malay Language Unit. Her teaching experience as a Malay Language teacher, her work as a curriculum officer at MOE HQ and her experience as a mother to a preschool-going son provides her with first-hand experience in providing a rich linguistic environment to young children.

Dr Hanin Hussain is a lecturer in the Early Childhood and Special Needs Education Academic Group, National Institute of Education. Her previous teaching experiences include teaching in early childhood settings in New Zealand and at a primary school in Singapore. She believes in the importance of fostering children’s dispositions for learning and for caring for the world around them. She also believes in teaching and learning that focuses on experiences that are relevant to children’s lives and meaningful to them; such experiences involve providing children with ongoing opportunities to interact with people, places, things, ideas and activities.

Raised on a literary diet of Enid Blyton and Judy Blume, Ms Sharon Ismail grew up wondering why the stories of people in our lives were not captured in books. Sharon’s curiosity resulted in a passion to get these voices heard, especially by our children, who have benefitted from a diversity of cultures in their lives and cannot imagine the adults they love as children. Sharon is an educator from primary to university level, and acts and hosts for stage and television. To date, she has published three books: What Sallamah Didn’t Know, The Ghost with Dirty Feet and Makan Time!, an English/Malay picture book.

Mdm Nafisah Md Ma’mun Suheimi holds a Master of Education degree from the Queensland University of Technology. She is regularly invited to speak at community forums and has also shared her expertise on issues pertaining to child and teen development on radio stations such as Radio Singapore International, Ria89.7FM, Warna 94.2FM and 938Live, as well as appearing on Suria TV’s parenting programme, Kelab K and M.A.P. Mdm Nafisah is currently serving as a member of the COMPASS (Community and Parents in Support of School) Advisory Council. She is also currently one of the PSG Mentors who have been appointed by MOE in guiding schools and supporting PSG leaders in working collaboratively. Mdm Nafisah also initiated and co-authored a project, PSG Online Resources, with a team of COMPASS parent representatives.

Mdm Norhaizahwati is currently a Senior Teacher at PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Bukit Panjang Blk 111 with 22 years of experience in pre-school teaching. Mdm Norhaizahwati is the form teacher of K2 children and is passionate about teaching the Malay language. Her lessons are fun, engaging and interactive. She uses cards, storybooks, flannel board stories, puzzles, song charts, tech toys (Beebots and KiBo) and authentic materials to make her lessons fun and lively.
